Obsidian is a quartet of creative musicians
dedicated to the spiritual exploration and expression of
improvised/composed sounds. They've been together since 1999, creating
and playing their own original impressionistic compositions as well as
tunes by John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Horace Tapscott and James
Blood Ulmer. Bill Noertker plays the bass. David Mihaly plays the
drums. These two are the rhythm section of and compose music for the
influential SF group, the After the End of the World Coretet. Mark
Schmitz plays the guitar, is a prolific composer and has studied at
Karl Berger's Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY. David Boyce plays
tenor/soprano saxophones and is co-founder of another influential SF
ensemble, Broun Fellinis. Obsidian reflects the myriad forms
and feelings of the only truly American art form, jazz, the music of
now and forever.
