For instance, the municipal council demanded that Gaudí remove a column that stuck out into the Passeig de Gràcia. Gaudí's response: "Fine! tell them that if they want to cut away at my building as if it were a cheese we'll carve a little notice on the smoothed off surface "mutilated by the order of the Barcelona City Council on such and such a date...'" Eventually he had his way. |
